Review copy — not the current published terms

This page is a proposed replacement for Regton's existing Terms & Conditions. Until formally approved and published, orders remain governed by the terms presented at checkout and the current published Terms & Conditions.

01

02

Who these terms cover

These terms apply to goods sold by Regton through regton.com and, where we provide them before the contract is made, to orders placed by telephone, email or in our showroom. They should be read with the product description, checkout information, order confirmation and any additional terms clearly identified for a particular product or promotion.

Consumers

A consumer is an individual buying mainly for personal use and not mainly for a trade, business, craft or profession. Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts a consumer's statutory rights.

Business customers

If you buy wholly or mainly for business purposes, the consumer-only cancellation and remedy provisions do not apply. Section 18 contains additional business terms.

Distance and showroom purchases differ: the statutory 14-day change-of-mind right generally applies to consumer orders made online, by telephone or by mail. It does not normally apply to goods bought in person, although statutory rights for faulty or misdescribed goods always remain.

03

Products, descriptions and responsible use

We take reasonable care to describe products accurately. Images are illustrative and colours, packaging and minor cosmetic details may vary because of display settings or manufacturer changes. Measurements, weights, performance ranges and battery life are approximate unless the product page says otherwise.

If a manufacturer changes a specification before dispatch, we will not supply a materially different product without telling you and giving you the option to accept the change or cancel for a full refund.

Product advice depends on the information you give us and does not guarantee that a product will produce a particular detecting result or be suitable for every site, soil, target or operating condition.

You are responsible for using products lawfully and safely, following manufacturer instructions, obtaining the landowner's permission and any other required consent, and observing restrictions applying to protected land, archaeological sites and reportable finds. Our Metal Detecting Code of Conduct provides general guidance but is not a substitute for current law or specialist advice.

04

Placing an order and when the contract is formed

You place an order

Review the basket, delivery details, total price and payment choice before using the final order button. You can correct errors before submitting the order.

We acknowledge it

An order acknowledgement confirms that we received your order. It is not acceptance unless it expressly says that we have accepted the order.

We accept it

The sales contract is normally formed when we send a dispatch confirmation or, for collection, when we confirm the goods are ready. For an electronically delivered voucher, acceptance may occur when it is issued.

If we cannot accept an order, we will tell you and refund any payment taken. Reasons may include unavailable stock, an obvious pricing or description error, failed payment authorisation, an unsuccessful finance application, inability to deliver, legal or export restrictions, or a genuine fraud or security concern.

You must provide complete and accurate order, contact, billing and delivery information. Please contact us promptly if it changes. We may need to cancel or charge reasonable additional delivery costs caused by an incorrect address after dispatch, but we will explain the options first.

We provide the contract confirmation by email or another durable format. Please retain it together with these terms.

05

Prices, VAT, currency and promotions

Website prices are in pounds sterling (GBP) and include UK VAT where applicable unless clearly stated otherwise. Delivery charges and any optional extras are shown before the order is submitted.

If your card or payment account uses another currency, its provider determines the exchange rate and may charge conversion or international-transaction fees. Regton does not control those rates or fees.

We try to ensure prices are correct. If we identify an error before accepting the order, we will not charge the corrected amount without your agreement. We will offer the option to proceed at the correct price or cancel for a full refund. Promotional prices apply only during the stated period and subject to any clearly displayed promotion terms.

Discount codes, loyalty rewards and vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash and may not be combined unless the relevant offer says otherwise. A discount cannot reduce an order below zero or be applied retrospectively after a contract has been formed.

06

Payment methods

The payment methods actually available for an order are those displayed at checkout. They may include debit or credit card through Stripe, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or PayPal Pay Later, Amazon Pay, and eligible payment methods dynamically presented through Stripe such as Klarna or Revolut Pay.

Availability can depend on the order value, product, device, location, currency and the provider's eligibility checks. A method appearing on another page or a previous order does not guarantee that it will be offered for the current transaction.

Payment providers process the transaction under their own customer terms. We may request authorisation when the order is placed and capture payment when permitted by the selected method. Your order will not be dispatched until the required payment has been authorised or cleared.

Bank transfer is available only where Regton expressly agrees it for the order. We provide verified payment instructions directly for that transaction; customers should not rely on bank details copied from an old email, webpage or third party. Contact us using the details in section 1 if payment instructions appear to have changed.

07

Retail finance and buy-now-pay-later services

Regton Limited acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Regton is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority for credit-broking activities under firm reference number 722902.

Where offered, Omni Capital Retail Finance Limited provides the credit and decides whether to approve an application. Other pay-later methods are provided by the lender or payment provider identified during checkout. Finance is subject to status, eligibility, affordability and the provider's terms. Applicants must meet any age, residence and other criteria shown before applying.

A finance or pay-later agreement is separate from the contract for the goods. Selecting finance does not guarantee approval or reserve stock indefinitely. If an application is declined or not completed, the order will not proceed unless we agree another payment method with you.

Where a credit agreement is completed and the related sales contract is cancelled, the treatment of the credit agreement is governed by applicable law and the lender's terms. Contact both Regton and the finance provider promptly. See our Finance Information page for the current application journey.

08

Payment security, fraud checks and verification

Regton, payment providers, banks and finance providers may carry out security, identity, address, authentication, credit and fraud checks. We may ask for reasonable additional information, delay dispatch while a check is completed, offer an alternative payment route, or refuse or cancel an order where there is a genuine security, fraud, sanctions or legal concern.

Some assessments use automated risk models and rules. Information about the data used, possible effects and applicable review rights is provided in our Privacy Policy. A payment authorisation or finance decision made independently by a bank, lender or payment provider is also governed by that organisation's terms and review process.

If we cancel after taking payment, we will return the relevant amount to the original payment method unless the law requires a different course.

09

Availability, pre-orders and order changes

All orders are subject to availability. Stock indicators and expected dates are estimates and may change because of simultaneous sales, supplier delays or stock discrepancies.

For a pre-order or back-order, the estimated availability date is not guaranteed unless we expressly agree a fixed date. We will provide material updates and you may cancel before dispatch for a refund unless the item is custom-made and a statutory exception applies.

We may dispatch an order in more than one parcel. This will not increase the agreed delivery charge unless you requested and agreed to a different arrangement.

Requests to amend an order are not effective until confirmed by us. We will try to help, but an order may already have entered fulfilment or been dispatched. If you wish to cancel an order under your statutory cancellation rights, please follow the cancellation process set out in section 12.

10

Delivery and collection

Available destinations, delivery methods, charges and estimated dates are shown at checkout. Our Shipping Information page gives additional guidance, but the option and price accepted in your checkout form part of the contract.

Next-working-day, Saturday and other timed services depend on the cut-off, stock, cleared payment, destination and carrier capacity shown when you order. Unless expressly described as guaranteed, delivery dates are estimates. We will nevertheless deliver without undue delay and, for consumer orders, normally within 30 days unless a different period is agreed.

If a material delay occurs, contact us. Consumers may have the right to set an appropriate additional deadline or cancel where delivery by the agreed date was essential or we refuse to deliver.

Delivery is complete when the goods are delivered to you or a person you identified at the agreed address. Risk passes at that point. If you independently arrange a carrier that we did not offer, risk may pass when we hand the goods to that carrier. Ownership passes when we receive full cleared payment.

For collection orders, bring the requested order confirmation and suitable identification. Risk passes when the goods are collected by you or your authorised person.

If nobody can accept delivery, the carrier may leave instructions, attempt redelivery, use an authorised safe option or return the parcel. We may charge reasonable additional costs of redelivery after discussing the options with you.

11

International orders, duties and restrictions

Online international delivery may be limited or suspended. We only accept an international order where the destination and service are confirmed at checkout or agreed directly by Regton.

For deliveries outside the UK, the recipient may be responsible for import VAT, customs duties, clearance charges and local taxes that are not included in our checkout total. We will tell you where charges are included if that is the case. Customs authorities and carriers may require contact and identity information.

You are responsible for checking local import, ownership and use restrictions. We may refuse an order where dispatch or delivery would breach export controls, sanctions or other law.

These terms do not remove mandatory consumer rights that apply in the country where you live.

12

Consumer cancellation rights for distance orders

If you are a consumer who ordered online, by telephone or by mail, you normally have 14 days to cancel without giving a reason. For a single delivery, the period ends 14 days after the day you or your nominated person takes physical possession. If one order is delivered on different days, the period normally runs from receipt of the last item.

You may cancel by any clear statement, including email, our contact form, the RMA portal or the model form in section 21. Using the RMA portal or model form is helpful but is not mandatory. It is sufficient to send the cancellation before the period expires.

After notifying us, return the goods without undue delay and no later than 14 days after the cancellation notice. Unless the goods are faulty, incorrect or we agree otherwise, you are responsible for the direct return cost.

Exceptions

The change-of-mind right does not apply where a statutory exception applies, including goods made to your specification or clearly personalised, sealed goods unsuitable for return for health or hygiene reasons once unsealed, or sealed audio, video or software products once unsealed. We will identify a relevant exception before purchase where reasonably possible.

Cancelling before dispatch is usually simpler; contact us promptly and we will confirm whether dispatch can be stopped.

13

Returns and refunds after cancellation

You may inspect and handle goods as you reasonably would in a shop. Original packaging is helpful for safe return but is not, by itself, a condition of the statutory cancellation right. We may make a proportionate deduction only for loss in value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.

Pack returns securely and include the order number or other information that allows us to identify the purchase. Unless we agree a collection, send returns to:

Regton Limited (Returns)
82 Cliveland Street
Birmingham, B19 3SN
United Kingdom

For change-of-mind cancellation, we refund the price and the cost of the least expensive standard delivery option offered for the order. We do not have to refund the additional cost of an enhanced delivery method chosen by you.

We make the refund without undue delay and normally no later than 14 days after receiving the goods back or receiving evidence that you sent them, whichever is earlier. We may withhold a goods refund until then. Refunds use the original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise, and we do not charge a refund fee.

Use the RMA portal to help us track a return, or contact us if the item is large, damaged, contains a battery requiring special carriage, or cannot reasonably be posted.

14

Faulty, damaged or misdescribed goods

Consumer goods must be of satisfactory quality, fit for a purpose made known to us and as described. If they are not, statutory remedies apply independently of any manufacturer warranty.

  • Consumers normally have a 30-day short-term right to reject qualifying faulty goods for a refund.
  • After that period, a consumer will normally be entitled to a repair or replacement in the first instance.
  • If repair or replacement is impossible, disproportionate, unsuccessful or not provided within a reasonable time and without significant inconvenience, a price reduction or final right to reject may apply.
  • For faults appearing within six months, the law generally presumes that the fault existed at delivery unless that is incompatible with the nature of the goods or fault, or we prove otherwise.

Contact us promptly with the order number and a description of the problem. We will provide an appropriate return, inspection or troubleshooting route. Where goods are faulty, damaged on delivery or incorrect, Regton bears reasonable return costs.

Damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, abnormal conditions, failure to follow instructions, unauthorised modification, or fair wear and tear is not an inherent fault. We will not treat a claim as excluded merely because a manufacturer's warranty has expired.

A guarantee or warranty is additional to statutory rights and cannot reduce them. A six-year limitation period for some claims in England and Wales does not mean every product must last six years.

15

Second-hand goods, ex-display items, vouchers and promotions

Second-hand and ex-display goods

We may sell second-hand, ex-display, refurbished or previously used products. The condition of such products will be described on the relevant product listing. Your statutory consumer rights apply regardless of whether a product is new, second-hand, ex-display or refurbished.

Gift vouchers

Regton gift vouchers are issued with the value, delivery method and validity period shown on the product page or voucher. They cannot be exchanged for cash, replaced after redemption or used after expiry except where the law requires otherwise. Contact us promptly about a delivery error, suspected unauthorised use or a voucher that has not arrived. Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and must be redeemed before their expiry date.

Discounts, loyalty and competitions

Promotions, competitions, referrals and the Regton Loyalty Program may have additional terms covering eligibility, dates, exclusions and redemption. Those terms apply only to that programme and do not reduce statutory purchase rights. We will not retrospectively change a promotion in a way that removes a benefit already validly earned under an existing contract.

16

Hire, marketplaces and third-party services

Equipment hire

These sale terms do not by themselves govern equipment hire. Hire is subject to the additional rental terms, deposit, identity checks, charges and return requirements presented before the booking. The booking information will identify the contracting party and any rental partner.

Marketplace purchases

If you buy through Amazon, eBay, B&Q/Kingfisher or another marketplace, the order is also subject to the marketplace terms and purchase process. Where Regton is identified as seller, your statutory rights against Regton remain. Use the marketplace order channel where required for cancellations or returns.

External services

Payment, finance, delivery and other third-party services have their own terms. Regton remains responsible for its obligations as seller and does not use a third party's terms to remove statutory rights.

17

Our responsibility to consumers

We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was an obvious consequence or both parties knew it might happen when the contract was made.

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of statutory rights relating to goods, or defective products where liability cannot lawfully be excluded.

If you use goods mainly for business purposes, we are not responsible under the consumer contract for business losses such as loss of profit, revenue, contracts, opportunity, data or business interruption.

We are not responsible for a failure to find targets, the value or legality of a find, lack of landowner permission, or unlawful or unsafe use of a product. This does not affect liability for a product that is faulty, unsafe or not as described.

18

Additional terms for business customers

This section applies only where you buy wholly or mainly for business purposes.

  • Consumer cancellation rights and consumer-only remedies do not apply. Returns of conforming goods require our prior written agreement and may be subject to reasonable restocking and delivery costs disclosed before acceptance.
  • Unless we agree written credit terms, payment is due in full before dispatch. Title remains with Regton until full cleared payment; risk passes on delivery under section 10.
  • You are responsible for ensuring that products are suitable for your business use and for any specification supplied by you.
  • Neither party excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
  • Subject to the previous point, Regton is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, revenue, business, contracts, anticipated savings, goodwill or data.
  • Subject to liabilities that cannot lawfully be limited, Regton's aggregate contractual liability is limited to 100% of the price paid or payable for the goods giving rise to the claim.

Any separately signed trade, distributor, tender or credit agreement takes priority where it expressly conflicts with this section.

19

Privacy, communications and website content

Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal information for orders, payments, finance, security checks, delivery, customer support and marketing. Our Cookie Policy explains cookies and similar technologies.

Order confirmations, payment/security requests, dispatch notices, warranty or recall messages and other necessary service communications are part of administering the contract. Marketing choices are managed separately and can be withdrawn without affecting service messages.

Regton owns or licenses the website text, design, trade marks, photographs and other content. You may view, print or save these terms and use website content for personal shopping purposes. You may not reproduce or exploit substantial website content commercially without permission.

Links to external websites are provided for convenience. Their content and services are controlled by their respective operators, although this does not reduce Regton's responsibility for its own sales contract.
