“Before the start of the monthly meeting of the Marine Corp League held at the Navy Club of Sangamon Ship #32 on Thursday evening, April 5, 2012, a unique dogtag handover ceremony took place. Marine Corp member Graham McCoy of Chatham, a metal detecting enthusiast, found a dogtag buried west of the current Southwind Park in Springfield. The dogtag belonged to Walter Alvin Krell, a World War II veteran and member of the U.S. Coast Guard who died in 1998. Here, Tim Krell of Springfield, his son, show off the recovered dogtag along with an early service photograph of his father taken around 1943.” – Taken from Article
