Dick Stout has participated in the metal detecting pastime for over twenty years, and now resides in Rowlett, Texas with his wife Fay. In 1984 he founded and became the first president of the Federation of Metal Detector & Archaeological Clubs, an organisation that now represents over 175 metal detecting clubs across the United States. During his tenure as president, he travelled extensively, promoting the pastime, and representing both the hobbyists and the metal detector manufacturers at congressional committee hearings in Washington DC. Dick has written well over 150 articles for various treasure magazines, and is currently a contributing editor for Western & Eastern Treasures magazine, published by peoples publishing company in Mercer Island, Washington. His previous books Coin Hunting...in depth and Where to find treasure (both published by White's electronics) continue to be best sellers. At the present time he is employed by Borders books & music, and spends most of his spare time in the field - anticipating that next signal - and the many treasures yet to be discovered!
